Removal of Door Car For Speaker Replacement

Hi All,

Is it necessary to remove the entire door car to replace the front speakers? I have a 1982 911SC Targa, and the 101 and Bentley don't mention. I've found tons of threads on which speakers fit, etc. but no mention of this either.

I had a 74 2002 20 years ago and just pried the bottom clips out and did the work from underneath. It was a bit more of a pain, but got the job done without risk to many of the older fragile pieces.

Ahhh, entire door? I assume you are either kidding or you meant to say door panel. In either case, if you aren't changing the size of the speaker you should not have to remove the door panel. You can increase to a 6.5" speaker without cutting into metal, but you will need to remove the panel to trim it the whole to a larger size.

Yes or close to it. I have done speakers a few times and always removed the panels or had them near off and flopping around. With a little practice and the right tools on hand it gets to be a 20-30 min task tops.

Sorry for the typo. Missed the "d" in door card. Both title body of post. I wish I could say I'd been drinking...

I don't know how much changed from 83 to 88, but on an 88 you do not have to remove the door card to remove the speakers. You do have to remove the pocket. Then just pop off the grille, unscrew four screws, and the speaker will fall out. Disconnect the wires from the back and it's out.
