Seatback recline spring grease

I've separated my sport seats, seat and backrest, from each other to redye. I am curious as to what type of "grease" is used to pack into the "clock spring" on both sides of the seat. It has some 30+yo heavy thick grease packed in there and I want to clean it up and replace it. Any ideas? That spring when the seat is bolted together is right up against the seatback and there was nary a bit of it on the leather. So the stuff stays in place.
There are springs on both sides and you can see the grease packed in there.

This shows how clean the seatback is even though that spring will sit right against it.

You know, there are some good dry lubricants around now days. If it were me, I'd clean the old grease out of the springs and use a dry lube on them. A dry lube can be easily reapplied in the future if you decide you want to. The grease is old tech.

Which dry lube would you recommend?

Thanks Marv. I was thinking that a thick grease of some kind would be better suited for this compression type spring. Is the purpose to preserve the metal and keep the squeaks down? Would a dry lubricant do that?
