Post Sunroof comments

I just tried to install a new pair of sunroof rails on my 73 T yesterday. The new rails are about 1"-1.5" longer than the original rails. They look easy enough to cut in order to make them fit properly. I just wanted to tell anyone else thinking about rail replacement about the extra effort that is involved.

they're late carrera/C2 parts that need to be adapted to fit early cars. they require the updated cables with the wider slider. all the old parts are obsolete now.

I bought the newer cables and they work fine. Just the length of the rail was different.

I did this conversion myself, you are doing it right. but you must cut the new rails because there are longer, just measure twice cut once. Use a hacksaw

Did anyone who performed the conversion remove the "felt" material from the cables themselves as instructed in the Pelican Parts Sunroof Repair article?

Hello

Not sure and more curios.

The pre 86 system uses a "hat" on the inner frame as stopf for the cable drive. RThe later units does have them integratet into the rails.

Now did you cut off the "hat" or did you drill a hole for the "hat" in the rails or had the rails allready a cutout on that spot ?

there's a hole for the "hat". they just don't use the short strip that does the job on the later cars.
