I was wondering the differences these cars offered and how they compare to other 93` p-cars. Are they lighter ? Faster ? More collectable ? Or should these be avoided ?

The answers are: yes, yes, yes and no. My 91 C2 aspires to be an RS, they were lighter by several hundred pounds, hence faster. As to more collectable? well they certianly made fewer of them. The way I see it is that in the long run these 964 bodied cars will hold their value nicely as it was a "short production run and all the talk of them being the "orphan" will only help in holding value as more of them hit the junk yard. Its already getting hard to find really nice examples of these cars....get my point?

The last time I checked them was in '94. I loved 'em! I believe they are little lighter than the 911 of the same year, but with great a great package: unique lightweight interior, tail, suspension (maybe was an option on std 911?). Very good power-to-weight ratio.
Be careful though - many purchasers dumped them as soon as they learned that the suspension can be bone-rattling for all except those who enjoy track-like performance. For the ultimate in stock RSA performance, look for 'option delete' models - no A/C, no sunroof, no radio. My kind of car (who needs a radio anyway when an RSA sport muffler sings?). I've seen prices from $35K to $45K stock. Um...if you get one, can I have a ride? |

Just noticed you're on Lawn Guyland. If you happen to purchase a nice, rust free, California car I'll be happy to deliver it right to your driveway. It shouldn't take more than a coupla' days.

I was or should say am thinking of getting a newer more dependable p-car. I love my 69` RS conversion but I want to have a change and try a different model. I see they only made 700 of these which should mean its a wise investment as well.

Seriously, I think there is an RSA registry. Try a web search to check. Such a group could give you valuable insight. Good luck.

Hey pjv911 - I couldn't ID an RSA registry, but I found some other info for you.
Check out the San Diego PCA web page at pcasdr.org, go to 'front page', then 'classifieds'. About 1/3 down the page is a call to RSA owners interested in a newsletter, webpage, etc.... Or call the organizer Keith V. @ 619-265-8377 or e-mail him at keithv@rsamerica.net. Hope it helps. BTW - while your in the SD PCA classifieds, check out the mildly modified RSA for a mere $58K (let's get two and split 'em!). |

Ironically the RS America was cheaper than a regular C2 when it was new, and now they go for alot more. Unless you are interested in the collector significance of the RSA don't be swayed by the higher pricetag today. Many of them were ordered with the sunroof and AC options making them as heavy as a C2. If you are after a simple perfomance 964 just get a regular C2 and upgrade the suspension to H&R or Cup suspension and you'll have a better handling car than the RSA. Remember the RSA used the USA spec M030 suspension which means very high ride height. The RSA is *not* akin to the Euro RS.

Isn't the Euro spec. one really the one? I suppose they didn't get to the US as an import much, as the RSA was fulfilling that niche.

"a wise investment as well." Pjv911? NO car is a "wise investment". I could sell my car for quadruple what I paid for it. But a "wise investment"? Nope. The same $, placed in a good no load index fund at the same time, even in today's depressed market..
Well, let's just say a LOT more. Without the costs of upkeep, insurance and all that. But you can't drive an index fund, can you? Don't kid yourself though. NEVER call a car, any car, an investment. Guys are probably going to weigh in here. Tell me how much Ferrari GTO's have gained since '64, or 427 Shelby Cobras, or.. blah-blah woof-woof. Guess what? The market index beats even that. Wanna buy a car because you like it, and can afford it? Do it. But don't EVER fool yourself into thinking it's an "investment". Just an old fart's advice, which nobody wants to hear anyway. But, like a steer, I keep trying... ![]() [This message has been edited by pwd72s (edited 10-25-2001).] |

Hate to be a spoiler, but RS Americas are not that different from US C2s. Just a tail change, lighter seats, simpler door panels, pull straps and no rear seats but in its place a plywood storage area. They are less than 100 lbs lighter than an equivalent C2. The Euro 964 RS was the one - stiffer suspension, engine mods, etc. I still like RS Americas though.

It's not much different than a C2 from the outside, but it's definitely a faster car. It has a factory LSD, lighter... and it holds it's value pretty good and getting rare too.

I have a 93 RSA, it is by far the best 911 I have had to date. (67S,72S, 74 carrera, 84 carrera) Great power, simple stripped down interior, all the right noises, still has the classic 911 bugeye headlights, and (most important for me) manual steering. I wish porsche would continue to make an (affordable) stripped down enthusiast car for the street. The RS represents all the elements that I originally got into porsches for, and the AC actually works (my only creature comfort, I live in the desert for god sakes...) Go for it, you won't regret it. (but still get a PPO and look out for the typical 964 issues...)
