renovating and color change
 

So I finally decided to renovate my car which I owned for ten years now. It's a 80 modell SC I bought on eBay in Hollywood and brought home to Norway. Now was a good time to do it, with no serious issues except some starting corrosion mostly hidden and none serious. I use the opportunity to change color as well and yesterday it got the first coating og porsche 414 Olive

I took the engine apart as well and rebuilt with new crank and rod bearings, as well as 3.2SS dual spark conversion which is done. Only awaiting new spark plug leads from Clewett and need to install oil tank for first startup

The work started mid May and since then it has been my main activity. Now I am finally beginning to see the end. And I am excited by the color

great project! I too am intrigued by your color choice. I'm selecting some snappy green for my 356... your olive may make it onto the short list. looking fwd to seeing outdoor shots in natural light.

car is getting clearcoat today so no access today. However here is a picture from bonding in the Fenn Lane sunroof panel.... Not really a job for amateurs but it came out good in the end. The clue is to fixate the panel without bending the roof out of shape. I made these wooden clamps and bonded bolts to the panel. Not really good enough as a few of them came loose. resistance welding would be better I have been told

414 Olive, you wont see too many of those on the streets of Norway... or anywhere! Great choice. Mine is Shwartzmetallic ( black ) and would love to go some shade of green someday..resale value be damned never gonna sell it anyway!

I've got one in my garage now and I'm going to install in the next couple weeks. Why did you end up deciding to bond the panel in instead of welding? I planned to weld.

was afraid of warpage and have only stick welder. Welding would have been quicker and fixating easier. I ended up having to use more filler than I liked as the jigs failed at both short sides after the 2k wurth glue had been applied. If you have tig or maybe mig and the skills thats what I would recommend

have started the engine and it sounds sweet ! Started first attempt, with the new EDIS twin spark I wired up. Now I have 2 EDIS modules running off one VR sensor and MS2. The new 2-1 Dansk Sport sounds gorgeous too. No leaks, good oil pressure and only had to tweak fuelling slightly. Did an oil change after 20 mins and filled with motul break-in oil. Unfortunately the paint job turned out bad and I will need to redo that, so will be some time until I am back on the road.

Color is beyond nice. Maybe not to everyones taste, but for me it is the coolest color I have ever seen on a car. Hard to walk past without wanting to lick it

Here finally is an update on my color change project. Unfortunately the paint job did not stick. The painter did not use etch primer, just primer filler and the paint did not adhere on the galvanized steel. It came off the car with compressed air alone, 80% of the surface, down to bare metal by just using an air gun at normal pressure in my garage. So all had to be removed, every crevice and difficult corner. My fingertips were bleeding from the emery paper for weeks. Now it is finally painted again, with epoxy primer this time and it looks good.

very interesting color, it seems to change a lot with light. From almost yellow in sunlight, to sinister olive with less light
