Steve Wong chip
 

In 2009 I bought a chip from Steve for my '86. It was a stock motor with a premuffler and an after market muffler. The chip was set up for 93 octane.
Since the I have had the motor refreshed and the cams reground to C2 specs. My question is, would I need to change the chip due to the change in the cams?
Also, can my chip be reconfigured for this setup? Steve?

Just email Steve directly from his site, he's very responsive.

SW has three options:

One time chip based on your set up inputs

two time chip, same as above with added one more time tuning based on dyno results

-or - tuning as needed due to ongoing upgrades

I'm in the same boat.
Bought the chip long time ago, since then lotsa changes.

I emailed Steve a while back but got no response.
Never got around to contacting him again.

most likely you could use the same chip... his chips aren't THAT specific that it would make much of a difference unless you drastically changed the air/fuel that goes into the car.

And given that Steve tends to be conservative with this maps... it is doubtful that the chip would cause any harm with the changes you made.

Nonetheless, if you are concerned, you would have to buy a new 'custom' chip from him.

Yes, you need a new chip.

It's going to run lean at WOT due to increased lift and duration of the new cams.

I was in the same situation after i rebuilt my motor two years ago.
Unfortunately, Steve didn't have an off-the-shelf chip for a 3.2 with 964 cams, so I was told that I would have to get the car dyno'd and upgrade to the $750 custom chip.

I asked a few local shops, and they all replied that they kept the stock 3.2 chip after installing the 964 cams, so I am now running an '89 chip from Sal.

That's interesting. It's probably fine at idle and part throttle, but it *should* be lean at WOT. At WOT, there's no feedback from the O2 to adjust AFR's. Doesn't seem smart to do IMO.
