Prepping a new fuel tank for install - two questions

After a lot of thought about going with a Dansk tank or a tank from Porsche to replace the deteriorated fuel cell in my former track car, I went with a Porsche tank. From my reading of threads about the Dansk tank I gathered that I would have been well advised to flush the interior of the tank thoroughly before the install as well as coat the tank with something like U-Pol Gravitex Stone Protector. My two questions:

1. Do I need to flush the new tank purchased from Porsche?

2. Do I need to coat the new tank with anything further? The tank already comes with a stone protector coating that I would guess is sufficient. However, I have had someone suggest to me that another coat of rubberized sealant from a spray bomb would be a good idea.

Remove the lower nut and be sure that tank is clean inside. I just had a car that had new tank installed and somehow cardboard or something like cardboard must have been in the tank from shipping. The material fell apart and clogged up the screen at the bottom of the tank it also clogged the fuel filter. Engine fuel pressure was way down and fuel delivery rate also failed testing. Took a while to figure out what had occurred.

I suggest inspecting the inside very carefully before install.

Can you post where you bought the tank from? Dealer?
What was the cost? I doubt you need to coat it.

Bought from the dealer. $1873 CDN, which is about $1425 US. So not cheap. But, for that price it came with the plug/filter screen and foam gas tank seal. Inside I can see the big swirl pot and I think also some baffling, which makes it different internally from the Dansk. Finally, it seems to be already covered with a good stone guard, so unless someone gives me a reason to have to spray anything further on it, it seems that when you get it from Porsche it is pretty much ready to go out of the box.

That looks like a factory finish to me. If they meant for it to be painted or coated, they probably would have shipped it with the seal separate and not attached.

Additional coating not needed. However, I would inspect the inside carefully because of Sal's experience above.

Never !!!!!! Use rubberized coating on anything it's crap. If you want oem finish use upol- gravitex or Chipgaurd. You can have it tinted. You can always ask Porsche 962 in the paint forum he's great with helping out.
