Turn Signals Working Intermittently
I've searched the forum for a similar issue but couldn't find anything. I have a 1978 911c.
All of a sudden my turn signals and hazard lights don't work. About every 8-10 times trying they will blink once and then shut off. EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE they will work as they should. I'm guessing relay but curious if there's anything else I should check as well. I also read that not all relays are made the same. Does anyone have a suggestion as to which one is preferred? Thanks |
The flasher relay on my '82 has a pretty lame connection at the plug. Check that it's secure and spray pins with cleaner. Worked for me.

Yeah get the German one from here. It needs to have the internal circuitry for two signal lights in the speedo. If you get the wrong one both left and right will flash together weakly.
I found it a bit of a pain to replace as the socket just would not give her up easily. Of course check all your bulb sockets and connections first. |
Also check the 6 pin connectors under the dash at the firewall. They can get loose or kicked inadvertently.
|
It sure sounds like a failing relay. Bosch relays are the best. URO relays have a bad track record.
|
Checked all the 6 pin connectors under the dash. All of them are snug.
I'm certainly leaning relay, our host doesn't carry the Bosch so I'll keep looking elsewhere, as I've read the cheaper ones just plain don't work. I've found a few locally, Febi and Novita. Any thoughts on these brands? Also, any suggestions on getting the old relay out? It seem seems to be putting up a fight. |
Sorry, I should have specified that the Porsche Genuine one ($37) is made by Bosch. I don't have any experience with the others (except the URO - bad).

I have a novita paperweight , does not work even though ti says it should
I got Wherle or something that sounds like that .. works fine .. I gave up and pulled the rubber mounting base out of the metal work. ( its a nipple pushed through a hole. ) I wish I had not as it was an absolute bear to get back in . ( I ended up on my back under the dashboard pulling the nipple back through the hole. with a pair of needle nose pliers ) the relay is designed not to vibrate out so it will really fight you . |
Check all the grounds/earths. There are something like six of them around the car. MY SC stopped having electrical gremlins problems once I tidied up the earths.

Clean all fuses and fuse holders while you are at it.
