Powerhaus?

Anyone ever used these guys(excellence magazine) to put a turbo on your exhisting motor? I talked to Chris the other day and he seemed very knowledgable about what to do to my 86 Carrera to make it nasty. Any oppinions?

Chris is still there? That guy has been threatening to go forever by now....

But Chris is a good dude. In my particular experience, I would much prefer to work with him than with David. David is more of a salesman. Chris is an enthusiast who knows his stuff. Just confirm all understandings in writing as they happen. Don't let Chris defer to David in an open-ended way. Get him to make commitments to you directly and confirm them.

By the way, ask him how much longer he is going to stay. When I worked with them, I started with Chris but then he split, and things got worse after that.

Bruce, did they do engine work for you? And if so was your car dependable for daily drives?

Thanks,

Mike

Well, that's an extremely loaded question. Technically, yes they did. But in reality at the time they had no wrench for big engine rebuilds, so they subbed it out to Bob Holcombe at Motorsport Design, who is now their next door neighbor. I got to know Bob in the process, and engaged him to do all the follow-up work. And, for one reason or another, there was a lot of that.

Just so you know, my car is that "Dream Package" on their website, with a few extra tweaks they don't mention.

It was a long and winding road, but eventually, yes--the car is now a reliable driver, although I don't use it as a daily driver.

It is also a tire-shredding beast

I just called Powerhaus for a quote to do the machining on my G50. The quote was twice as much as Patrick Motorsport and Powerhaus said they end up fixing everyones mistakes. Both Patrick and Powerhaus had quite the attitudes. These are the kind of places that I would go last.

Well my question is do I take the plunge with my Cab and make it a tire shredding beast or keep with the B&B pipes/headers and a mass air flow intake. I really want the nasty car. I would just like to hear everyones opinnions and then decide.

I would say if you want to keep you car for a while and don't mind spending more money than you think you will on it, then go for it. You will hear alot of negitive comment around here about what you are planning too do. I modifyed my car (it's not quite tire shredding yet) and I would do it again in a heart beat. Due to Powerhaus's attitude I personally would choose someone else to do the work. I hear that Todd at Promotive is nice. I would choose Stephen at Imagine Auto first. I know he is a very nice guy to deal with and has been helpful to me.
Your plan isn't cheap but it will be fun.

HP Junkies Turbo my 3.2 Part 2

An excellent thread about a few turbo carrera cabs conversions and Juans street missle back when it ws still a large bottle rocket. I think he has made it even more wild since this old post. Reading over it, I would not hesitate to call Promotive and make yourself a EFI turbo cab. Us real turbos eventually have to go that route too.

I tried to reply to your e-mail but it didn't work.

Here is Stephen's shop. He is an honest guy and not too full of himself.

Have a blast with your project
