73 2.7 RS (Touring) at Gooding 2017 Monterey
Guys,
I just saw someone reposting the result; apparently this car (a 73 2.7RS Touring) was sold (before buyers commission) at 530k. This sounds incredibly below what market indicates what a nice RS would fetch. So, perhaps this RS is flawed? I wonder if anyone of you saw the car up close and can give any comments about the result. Thanks Carson (here is a link to the car) 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring | Gooding & Company

"Willhoit Auto Restoration in Long Beach, California, carried out corrective cosmetic work on the car’s deck lid and ducktail during the same period for $14,482.50."
LOL, THAT is an expensive engine lid repair. |

I would guess the "tourings" lack the racing provenance that can drive the prices higher, like many of the RS cars.

It's "New Market" correct.
Prices have been slowly declining the last few years, but once the price bubble pops they will revert back towards "the mean" appreciation rate. A huge speculative bubble built up around the '73 RS from around 2004 to 2014. They went from a roughly $100,000 car to around $750,000. That leap, after having "normal" price appreciation for almost 40 years, is the definition of a speculative bubble. Because of inflation (and the value of the dollar) they aren't ever going to be $60,000 cars like they were in the 90s, or $100,000 like in the 2000s, but they will drop back down in the $200,000s eventually. They are already generally IMO down from the $700s to the $500s so they are 35-40% of the way there already. They are a relatively high production car (by numbers, a '73 S Coupe or '73 E Coupe is a more "rare" car than a '73 RS). They are also a car that is easily "duplicated" in looks and performance. |
