I'm in the middle of rebuilding my 73.5 T sunroof assembly. It's been nonfunctional for about 15 years and I have a couple questions. When you guys "grind" down the new cables to fit the old guide rails do you dremel, or grind, both sides of the cable guide piece? I'm assuming you do but would like my repair to last many years.
![]() Also, if anyone has the 73 parts manual I need the part number for the flexible shaft that runs between the sunroof motor and the sunroof transmission. I started with the part for a 74 but have since learned Porsche changed the sunroof pieces after 73. I now have the part which is correct for a 70 but want to be sure it will work on my 73. The part number I have is 901.564.615.06 Thanks for the help, Jeff Last edited by Hockey fan; 02-03-2003 at 08:21 AM.. |

Jeff there is a PP tech article that covers it, I think. It discusses the conversion to the new cables.
Good Luck

The part number you list (901.564.615.06) is the same one listed for the flexible shaft in the illustrated factory parts catalog for 1972-73. The catalog part count for the sunroof is 120 pieces from 59 different part numbers but some of these are for left/right versions of parts, the metal drain lines welded to the body and the entire sunroof frame which some would not think to include in the parts count. Cheers, Jim

Jim,
Thanks for looking the part number up for me. I appreciate it. Cary - I've got 101 projects and have looked at the tech article but I guess I'm looking for someone to say "yeah, you need to grind both sides" or "just grind down one side until it fits in the guide rail". Thanks, Jeff |

Jim,
Thanks for the correction on the parts count. I guess I had looked at the parts manual and only counted unique or different parts. I'm sure if I took a few more things apart I could top that 120 pieces mark! I've got everything but the motor laying in the dining room. Have a good weekend, Jeff |

I'd like to know as well, PO had carpeted over the sunroof! But thankfully all the parts were still there, just need new cables and a few inexpensive plastic pieces.

Bump - still wondering about the "grinding" of the updated cables. If you've done this let me know.
Thanks, Jeff |

You need to grind down both sides of the cable-end guide pieces. Compare the new parts with the old ones if you still have them. I used a dremel tool & ground the top & bottom 'bumps' on each side until it would fit into the rails & slide smoothly. Note that you might be able to grind material off the bottom only on the side with the projecting rod piece.

Andrew,
Thanks for the reply. It was the answer I was looking for. I do still have the old plastic pieces so I'll use those for a reference. Jeff |
