4-way power seat switch question
 

I got my new seats today at Dunkels. The drivers side 4-way switch is broken. The round part came off :mad: :mad: :mad: The PO or PPO tried to glue it back on with superglue. Well, that didn't work well.

Does this happen a lot considering the flimsy 4mm diameter plastic rod.

Where do I get a replacement part?
How difficult is it to swap the switch out?
Do I have to swap the entire unit?
Has anyone ever been able to come up with a fix?

I was thinking of maybe drilling a tiny tiny hole and reinforece the rod before glueing it. Or press a hot steel pin in. Would that work?

Any ideas are welcome.

Performance stocks them $55 - $95 depending on which switch you need. Pelican may have them as well now....
It is not difficult to replace the switch if the seat is out - it will come with a wiring harness that needs to be routed down to the motors.. Most 'fixes' on the old switch will not last so if it was me I would replace the switch now.

Ingo, The same thing happened to my switch. I drilled a small hole in the cover and post and put a small screw in there(I super glued it first). Try to find a small diameter screw with a large head, preferably black. Has held up for 6 months so far.

While I had the switch off I took it apart and cleaned the contacts (watch out for the springs and ball bearings:eek: ). I took the seat out but you don't have to. I lubed the rails and screw mechanisms and it now works like new.

Oh, if you do take the switch apart use some grease on the springs and ball bearings to hold them in place (you'll know what I mean when you get it apart).

I had the switch apart already. One of the ball seems to be almost like glued to the spring. It might be old grease, too. The others where loose. I got it back together fine by putting the balls in their respective positions first and then put the top part in place. Of course it was easy with the round part broken off. I am afraid that with the round part afixed again it might be a lot harder.

Still, I'll try the "drill a tiny hole and superglue" approach first. If it faisl our host sells the new part for 86$. Porsche charges 113$, ouch.
