Atom G4 Avation to Pump Gas Conversion

Question from a clueless person.

I have a 1979 running a 1995 3.6l with 50mm PMO's. Car is running aviation fuel at the moment but I need it to run 98 octane pump gas.

Wondering what I need to do to make this work?

Would I damage the car if I drove it with 98 gas temporarily?

Thanks for the help! Heres the car...

Just adjust the ignition timing for 98 octane fuel .

Thanks Steve. Just to be clear that needs me to tune the ECU correct? I'd love to do that myself and not screw around with a dyno tune.

With your PMO carburetors, the ECU will not be controlling them like Injection.

So that only leaves ignition. So I would retard the spark (as suggested above by Steve) and put in a new set of 98 Octane friendly spark plugs.

You shouldn't need any new plugs (unless you are running the wrong heat range), but you will need to remap the ECU, if you are still using the Motronic to control the ignition.

There are options for doing that, however I cannot offer anything constructive without knowing the Bosch numbers on your ECU.

Av-gas is not suitable for (race) car engines! Av-gas is meant for slow revving aviation engines. Av-gas has a slower flame front than regular pump gas or race gas. 110 octane Av-gas is not the same as 110 octane race gas! Can you get 98 octane gas on regular gas stations here in the US?

Thanks everyone, I spoke with Link who makes the ECU for my car. They said a dyne and remap is in order.

Gas here in New Zealand is 98 octane but that still isn't high enough!
