Distinction between Early & Late 75's

Can someone tell me what was the difference in bearings from the early & late 1975 engines. From what I have heard the tab on the bearing is placed on the opposite side. Is this true? If so can you tell me which side the tab was on for early years and which side it was on for late years?

I assume you're talking about the crank bearing inserts?

I recall that Frere makes a reference to this change in "The Porsche 911 Story" and said that the cases made during this period had machined cavities on both sides, in anticipation of the switch. Can't recall if he mentioned the exact direction before/after, but can try to find it tonight if you don't own that book.

Edit: Hey, that was my 100th post! Wish it had been more helpful... :p

Hello

The notch from the main bearing halves was fliped to the other side.

f.e: Bruce Andersons book shows that
