Help replacing a piece of vinyl
Ok I am going to replace the piece of vinyl on my '69 912 targa.
It is basically between the lock post and the inside of the car. Thing is there are two channels, one for the door seal on the outside and one for the panel on the inside that I don't think I can get glue into. I am thinking of using some 3M spray adhesive and bonding a majority of it to the exposed surface, Then going back and trimming it and wrapping it around the channels? Or should I try to cut it exactly from the old piece and do it all at once? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Dean ![]()

For hard to access areas, I like to use DAP Woodweld that's in the little bottle. The lid has a brush attached to it. It works as well as the 3M stuff, but with more control.

Those are great write ups.
Thanks So it sounds like I cut to shape using the old one and then attach one side at a time. Sound right? Dean |

Cut it large. You can use a sharp exacto to final cut once it is all glued in.
Did you see how I started with a rectangle shape? I glued one edge to fit back behind the outside lip, let that set and then placed that piece in and clamped it. Once that cured, I sprayed over the foam and on the back of the vinyl and tacked it down. I let that setup, then I glued the final edge, let that setup and then clamped it down to cure. After I was pretty much done I did the final trim with a sharp exacto knife. |
