help Gas in oil
I have a professionally rebuilt motor. 1982 3.0 10.1 compression, stock valves, 3.2 intake, custom cams for my set up from web cams, megasquirt from Bitz racing.
I changed my oil several times and has a strong smell of gas each time. The new motor has less then 20 miles on it. I talked to people with bitz kit and they never had a problem with gas in the oil. |

Have you checked your AFR/CO?

How much did you self perform and how much was done by the builder? Did you do the break-in or did the shop?

They did a complete rebuild split case all new bearings. I installed the 3.2 intake and broke the cams in as builder wanted 2000 rpm for 20 min

I have some thoughts but no personal experience with the issue. My suggestion is to hold off on any driving until you get it figured out because gasoline is not what you want in the oil during break-in.
My dumb, inexperienced hypotheticals: rings weren't set right, rings are fine but not yet fully seated, faulty injector is leaking after engine shut-off and draining into the cylinder, it's running waaaaay too rich, or engine is misfiring badly (but you'd probably notice this). I'd start by talking with the engine builder, honestly.

Faulty plug or plug wire? You can use a noid light to make sure your injectors are firing.

You have 20 miles on the motor and have changed oil several times? Seems like a waste of good oil.
Do you think you have the injectors wired correctly? In most EFI setups the injectors are feed 12V power with key on and the inj driver in the ecm will "ground" the circuit to cause the injector to open and the fuel pressure in the rail is what squirts the gas out of the tip of the injectors. ECM will ground the injector many times per second when needed based on the input of the cam/crank signals. So if you happen to have an injector signal wire finding ground when it shouldn't be, it could continuously allow fuel into the cylinder. If you can take the fuel rail and injectors off and see if they continue to spray with the key on but the engine not running, you can mark that off your list. Having said all of that, it doesn't sound like you've performed an appropriate engine break-in and you might just have a sensitive nose. It only takes a couple drops of gas to make everything smell like gas.

I have a 930/16 engine from a 1983 SC (I think, that's from memory) bored to 3.2 with Weber carbs in my 1975 Carrera. Engine was rebuilt in 1999, sat until last year when it was installed and run... I also had the gasoline smell in the oil in the first 100 miles or so. Changed the oil and the smell never came back. I also ran the car hard... lots of driving at temperature, and variable speed, and no real short runs for the first few hundred miles. Kept the RPM below about 4500 for the first thousand miles or so.

Why don't you send an oil sample to a lab that can test for fuel dilution?
The 3.2 fuel rail has a fuel pressure tap on the end-rig up a pressure gauge and observe fuel pressure after shutdown-compare to specified values. If one or more injectors are leaking after shutdown, you can swap them out until you find the bad ones. If one or more injectors are getting a continuous ground from the ecm, you may be able to see that with a noid light, but an oscilloscope would be best |
