Vehicle Locator Detail-Ever Used?
Does anyone know why the dealerships stop using the Vehicle Locator Detail tool? I have been trying to track down the dealership that my '74 911 was delivered to, and have run into some road blocks.
The previous owner was able to acquire a readout from Beverly Hills Porsche on this car and it reads as follows: Dealer: Mark Porsche Audi, Dealer#228 The original first owner of the car was from Oxnard, CA so I figured that the dealership was there or close to Oxnard. Thankfully, some members on the 914 forum posted a Dealership brochure from 1973. My car was built in July of 1973 and delivered in December of '73. There is not any record of a 'Mark Porsche-Audi' anywhere in all the US. The closest dealership was in Ventura called 'Masterson Porsche-Audi'. The only record of a dealer possibly being the aforementioned dealer is Mark Motors in Ottawa, Canada. Their website history states they weren't a dealer until 1974. I have placed a call to the GM there who is the son of the original owner in the hopes that he can possibly give me some info that might help decipher the discrepancy. It seems that the info from the Vehicle Locator Detail tool may in fact have faulty info, and I may never get the answer to this, other than logically assume that Masterson in Ventura was the dealer. One of the reasons that this is of interest to me is that the car has some unusual features for a California car. It has Euro Tubes in the front bumper, which was not an optional feature in non Euro cars. In addition, shortly after production, the 'California Equipment' specified that the shock absorber bumpers were to be installed. How the car was able to get into California with the Euro Tubes is one of the items I'm trying to get answers to. The car was special order color 'Emerald Green Metallic' (Color Code: Y9) with Midnight Blue Leather and was also specified with sunroof delete. The owner was able to verify with PCA that the car was the first special order color G body for the US and the oldest documented G body still on the road. It has an original aluminum deck lid grill (plastic was what was specified for G bodies), and gauges that are a blend of '73 and new G body gauges and another gauge, the speedo, from VDO that appeared in neither the '73 nor the G body standard specs. They were all pulled and the factory mark '7/73' (the production date of the car) are all there printed on the back of each of them. It appears that the car was a (JIT=Just in Time) build and used up '73 parts before the official production date of August 1 went into effect that called for the items to be standard as I mentioned above. I can't answer your question, but I saw your car up-close before you bought it, very cool car, with tons of interesting little quirks, many parts are more like a longhood than a short-hood.
post some photos and some of the history.

Thanks. It's really cool to have this unique of a vehicle. And the reaction of other Porsche owners when seeing the color combo is rather interesting. Alot of them have never actually seen Emerald Green Metallic, and never with a Midnight Blue Interior. It would be great for a Seattle Seahawks fan! ![]() ![]() I'll post some history later. |
