Attaching Rear Third Brake Light

A while ago I updated my 85 911 with a glass mount style, rear third brake light. I received the unit but without a way to attach to the glass. I looked at the stock rear glass of a 911 that had the light from the factory and it appeared to be painted where the light was mounted. This gave it a very clean look.

I ended up using a black double-sided foam tape to mount. The problem with this is that the tape shows a bit of non adhesion. Therefore it doesn't look 100%.

Are there any tricks or is there mounting harware I'm not aware of?
