Need a crafty solution...
Looking to replace the foam squishy seal with the metal pinch strip around the fender mount oil cooler on my Carrera. The seal is badly disintigrating.
Problem: new seal is $70...and why its that much I have no idea. Looks like it should be about $10 Solution: your crafty idea Reward: my respect Anyway...any ideas appreciated. :D Thanks! BG |
Spread the metal pinch strip gently...Go to a NAPA with a section of the seal material, ask "You have anything that matches this?" If not NAPA, try another outlet or two, then visit body shops. The answer is out there.
All depends on how long saving $60 or so is worth the effort. This is another example of the P-car tax... |
Foam pipe insulation at Home depot, has sticky on one side to stick to itself, can be stuffed and stuck on. Otherwise, marrine foam insulating weather strip.

how about a piece of spare rubber garden hose. Cut to length (short) Split to fit. Its been on mine for about 1 1/2 years no problems (yet)

Copper pipe foam insulating *tubes* from your local home improvement store. Comes in many sizes and is already split.

Uh, harder to get off, but that's the point. Foam in a can. Home Depot has stuff called "Great Stuff". I think they have two kinds, maximum expanding and minimal expanding. I have the minimal expanding, and it expanded more than enough to make a tight seal. After it is dry you can trim the lumps with a razor or knife.
