Griffith's Complete AC System Test Results
Since it was hot (for here, close to a record) today 100-104F depending on where you were standing in the shade I thought I would give my new Griffiths AC system a test.
The temp. measurements were made with a Traceable thermometer. Griffiths Upgrade(s): new evaporator and front condenser, all new hoses, new thermostat and compressor (same model as stock R12). I added both rear fender condensers and the variable speed control system for the evap. fan. The only not new part was the deck lid condenser which I had flushed at a local place. The fluid is 134a, installed 36 fl. oz and 6 oz. of DEC PAG 46. Results: Time 2:00 PM, outside temp let's say 102F, vent temp. 40-44F. This was at ~40mph in 3rd with the temp. turned all the way down and the fan speed at ~75%. Inside was comfortable and cool without the vent blowing directly on me. Installing all the parts/etc. is a good chunk of work. However, it is nice to drive the car anytime now and be comfortable. |
Holy spal fans, Batman.
An A/C system that actually works! May the microchannels be with you and the snake oil be always on your boots.... (Good job!) |
That's pretty damn good! Congrats.
And of course I didn't upgrade mine and had to live without through our toasty summer, eh Bill? |
One month ago I did a similar upgrade to my 1987, except I used R12 freon. I live in Augusta ga and 95-100 degree days are common in the summer. I did a similar test during a 95 degree day and it blew 28 degrees at the vent. I know r12 is difficult if not impossible to get in certain parts of the country but if you can get it use it, you will not be disappointed
