1971 911E Euro spec evap tank question
Hi all. Wanting to put everything back to original on my car but would like a photo or sketch showing exactly where the gas tank evaporation pipes go on my 911. It's a RHD euro car so no charcoal canister, just the plastic evaporate box located under the dash.
Thanks in advance. |

Here's a generic sketch for the early cars
![]() Note, this is likely for a LHD car, but I assume the location of the steering wheel/pedals doesn't change. The hoses from the tank up to the dash collector box (1) are in the trunk, running along the side of the fender. The evaporation container (2) is behind the headlight, in the wheel well. There are tubes in the fender wall that allow hoses to be connected. You do not have the charcoal canister (3) and the hose to it likely terminates through a hole in the bottom near the front bulkhead--at least it did on my '69. If you don't have the canister, you don't have the hoses back to the engine either. Again, I'm not familiar with RHD, but if it came with the small box under the cowl, there should be a sort of hook-like bracket underneath that hold the box in place using a rubber strap. Look for that bracket and it will tell you which side of the trunk the plumbing goes, but my guess it's still the left side. This link may also help: Fuel tank venting system question

On my 1972 UK sourced 911T there is a plastic canister under the LHS dash as shown in the diagram above, held in place by a square section rubber band. It never had the tanks 2 and 3 or the hoses back to the air intake. The hose that goes 2 tank #2 in the diagram above simply vents under the front of the car through a gap between the fuel tank and chassis tank mount.
