Splicing Hot Wire from Ignition coil?
I am sure this has been discussed before, but I can't find it with a search so here goes:
I need to get a wire that is hot whenever the car is on for a MAF Kit install. The likely source seems to be the ignition coil. My questiion is can I just carefully cut into the wire housing for the wire that runs from the ignition coil to the distributor and splice in a hot wire there? By the way, the car is an 87 Carrera. Thanks in advance for what is probably a remedial question. |

HI, if it a 12 volt switched source you are looking for you could take a feed from the 4 pin connector that feeds the injectors. This is located ahead of the engine on the cross member. More or less, it is ahead of the aux heater blower fan on top of the engine.
Some times, a MAF needs permanant battery as they can go into a burn off mode after shut down if it is a hot wire type. If this is the case, you may need a permanant battery feed. Hope this helps Saint |
