Primer or Respray? Paint and tub different

I recently picked up a long neglected '82 Targa that I believe to be Black(Schwarz)Metallic. I've started cleaning it up and noticing that the inside of the frunk, floors, and engine bay above engine are all a light blue color?

Is it possible Porsche used this blue as a primer for Schwarzmetallic?

I purchased this from the original owner who ordered it new as black. There is a schwarzmetallic sticker at the engine. Why is the tub so different?

I can find no signs of blue on any of the body panels. Spots on the body are scratched or faded and see no blue. The paint sticker in the frunk on the passenger side is missing and I don't see anything on the door hinge panels.

Not sure what is going on with your car, but my 1979 is schwartz metallic (paint code on the driver's door pillar is 708-9-3), and I have no blue like that anywhere.

I've replaced the engine sound pad - no blue. I've had the rear interior deck exposed - no blue.

Something seems fishy, especially seems odd that a one-owner car would be missing the riveted metal paint tag on the drivers door pillar. And I don't think a paper tag like you have is normal.

(Edit: Sorry, looks like the paint sticker is correct for a 1982, and there was no tag in the drivers door jamb. See this thread: Matching numbers 1980 911SC??).

The blue still seems very odd for an original paint car.

Mark

I have a similar blue in the frunk of my '82 US spec Targa. It is now in GP white after a PO's poor respray. The paint tag is gone but still some original black (I think) can be seen on the hinges. Unsure if it's metallic or not.

If Alex115's car has the same tub color I have to think that is too much of a coincidence. More than likely came that way as a black car, but COA is the only way to know for sure.

My tub is the same exact color as the body.
That sticker is tattered and I'm not sure it' even in the right location.

I have an '80 Targa, black, and there is no blue paint anywhere.
I think that was a blue car that got repainted at some time, whatever the PO told you.

I have an 83 coupe that is currently black (schwarz) metallic but has the same blue in the frunk as well. Mine is also missing the riveted tag. I feel that it was either part of a base coat or the car was originally slate blue metallic. I was planning to order a certificate of authenticity to try to clear this up. Is there another way to determine the original color of the car?

I also have a black, but not black metallic '77 and it is black body with all black tub. The paint tag on the engine cross member is correct for '82 (I think).

My '77 has the riveted tag on driver door hinge panel.

The weird tub green/blue primer looks to be a metallic thing and maybe only the later SC years when metallic paint was available.

My black 82 had the blue in the frunk. It was black from the factory.

My '82 is factory black (A1V9) and has the same blue in the frunk. It may depend on how lazy the guy on the paint line was feeling that day.

Reviving an older thread.

I have an 83 Sc coupe, black on black, COA confirms it, paint meter shows its original, factory paint everywhere, and I've got the same blue in the frunk, under the carpets, etc.
