Angry cruise control cable = $160.81!!! (85 Carrera)

AHHH!!!!!!!!!

So I am cleaning the engine compartment for Auto-x inspection (95% impression is looks).
I hear this "Clink clink clink" I look around at what I broke (I had to have broke something like always right?).

I see my cruise control cable connector is no longer there and attached through the throttle assemble.

It appears the cable is too short now to be pulled through the cable actuator thingy (technical term).

Can I solder a cable piece on?

Should I get a "cable extender"?

Should I break down and buy this cable new from PP for (YIKES!!!) $160.00+ ?

Someone else got a good cheap fix, that won't look shabby?

TIA

Just remove the cable for now until you can get a new one. If you cannot remove it, get some zip-ties and strap it down to something very securely and out of the way.

At your inspection, they will NOT care that the cruise control cable is missing. Many Porsche drivers who adapt their cars more for track use have removed the cruise entirely.

What they WILL care about is having a loose cable flapping around back there.

There is probably not a reliable fix if you broke it. You could try bike shops for any crimping hardware, but having been a cyclist for many years, I have never seen such a thing....usually brake cables, etc come from the mfg'r with the crimped ends already in place. But it never hurts to go and ask.

I doubt you will use the cruise much for the Auto-X!!
Hope this helps,
Nick.

First a 911 cupholder thread, now a 911 cruise control thread?! I guess I never realized 911's had cruise control (or cupholders!) - learn something new everyday.

I used one of those fishing clips. Ties to line on one end and snaps shut like a bobby pin on the other. Instead of fishing line, I bend cruise cable into eye in loop then snap other end on throttle actuator. Worked for a few months so far.

For the permanent fix I'm going to take the whole cruise cable and throttle plate connector to bike shop and get them to put proper length cable with those stops they use for brakes.

Thanks Poorsche,

I think I will take it apart and go down to a bike shop, and see if they can make it.

Thanks to all!

bike cables are woven, not solid wire. too thick.
