6AN Fittings, I need some help.
Hello,
I'm currently working on installing a Bitz kit on my '77 Bitz Kit Install in Stock '77 911S The recommended fuel pressure regulator is NLA, so doing some searching, I found an Aeromotive unit that others have used successfully. Well, the Bitz is supplied with parts to use barbed fittings and clamps on the fuel lines, while the regulator comes with 6AN fittings. I bought the kit of replacement fittings that were in a link and they are 8mm barbs, which is quite a bit bigger than 1/4" and didn't want to seat and also have me worried that I might comprise the hose by forcing them on. Can anyone point me to the proper fitting? Searching by 6AN usually shows a nippled end when I need a flat one- are they both called 6AN or can you let me know what the other one is called? Picture shows the too big adapter with the proper threaded end and a 8mm barb, they also sell 6mm, but that seems like it would be too loose. Thanks for any guidance. ![]()

I would bet you are mixing and matching npt and AN bits. I think the barbed fitting you have is NPT.
These guys have everything, if its not listed on their site call. They had the adapter I needed but it wasnt listed. http://www.batinc.net/mocal.htm

ive taken fittings to the ace hardware department plumbing section to declare a mystery thread I'm dealing with. they have those sample thread deals and plenty of different samples to try my part with for ID.

I got the same regulator and would not use a barb fitting on it (except the vacuum one that come fitted with it as shown).
As per Ayles suggestion I would call them. I got all my Earls fitting from https://www.holley.com/brands/earls/ EARLS CLASSIC HOSE AND HOSE ENDS

I'm not familiar with the Bitz set-up. If they are using barb fittings I would stick with it and disregard my earlier comment.

Thanks JJ,
Yes, it uses barbed throughout and if the old regulator was available it had barbed fittings as well. Doing some more searching, it seems like the one end is called 6AN flat with o-ring? I'll call the place Ayles nicely posted tomorrow and see what they carry.

The fuel pressure regulator needs a -6AN o-ring boss (ORB). The more proper name for the black fitting in your picture is a -6AN ORB to a -6AN male.
Going from a -6AN to a 1/4" hose barb is not common, usually its 5/16". I just googled -6AN ORB to 1/4" barb... this is basically what you are looking for. No experience with this supplier... https://www.aeroflowperformance.com/af414-06-04 Are you running hose clamps on the supply (pressure) side? Personally i am not a fan of hose clamps on the pressure side depending on what fuel pressure we are talking about. Going down the slippery slope of redoing your engine compartment fuel lines to all AN fittings is good peace of mind.

Thanks so much, I checked that company and they are in Australia, but with your proper nomenclature of the fitting, I found the parts from the same place that makes my regulator in KS https://www.aeromotiveinc.com I placed an order, thanks again, Rutager

Also Summit Racing is my go to source for AN fittings, ultra fast shipping. No affiliation.

Rutager, just verify which fuel pressure regulator you have.
I may be incorrect when i said that the regulator needs a -6AN ORB. I see that Aeromotive makes a universal bypass regulator which looks identical that uses 3/8NPT ports. If that black fitting in your picture came with the regulator, its definitely a -6AN ORB. https://www.aeromotiveinc.com/product/universal-bypass-regulator/ https://www.aeromotiveinc.com/product/compact-efi-regulator/

Jon,
Yes, the black fitting was the original, so with your help, I'm confident I have ordered the correct parts. Thanks again, Rutager

Hi Rutager,
this is the response i got from Tony: Possible alternative that I have not tried on Summit Racing site is: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/sum-220057/overview/ This would also require the following set of fittings: http://www.summitracing.com/int/parts/tbs-ts-0402-1110 The FPR does have a port for a fuel gauge, so the pressure gauge can be installed directly on the FPR instead of the rail as shown in the manual. FYI: i assembled everything on the FPR with the help of some fuel safe liquid gasket, hylomar blue or something, I remember it was a bit of a stretch to get the lines over the barb, but it worked out fine. I put double clamps everywhere. (I bought braided fuel hose as well to make sure it can cope well with the pressure)

Should not use any sealant on AN fittings. Just lubricate the o-ring with some oil or silicone for AN ORB fittings. The port for the fuel pressure gauge is NPT, for that you need to use either fuel compatible teflon tape (usually yellow in color) or a thread sealant.
