Question What would you do next?

1981 911SC (104,000 miles)

work just done:
New cat. converter (old one rotted & cracked)
New O2 sensor
New Plugs
New Megacor wires
New dist. cap & rotor
Adjusted timing.

Now the Pcar runs poorly when cold. After its been run for awhile its like a different car. Smooth and ideling niceyly.
Complaint is that it appears to bog down on initial acceleration and the power peak seems to have risin to over 4000rpms.
It just does not have the crisp power it did before.
So, what would you check & do next?

Tx!
John

Definately check the WUR.
Also check the controls pressures when warm and cold.

Fuel Control Pressure

John,
You need a fuel injection (CIS) gauge kit to measure your fuel pressures. This kit is available from J.C. Whitney ($60) and very useful for trouble shooting CIS system.

You need to know the pressure before and after the WUR (cold & warm) to be able to diagnose the problem causing your erractic engine performance. This fuel gauge kit also helps you determine the delivery pressure of your fuel pump. Just my two-cents......

Get a CIS test from JC Whitney (why doesn't Wayne have this at the same price?) and read this thread:

close, but no cigar

Note: your full advance will be less than the 78-79 SC motor..maybe 29 degrees max. I'll have to check the factory spec for full advance, but others will chime in, I'm sure.

Adjusted timing to what? 29-32 degrees total at 6000rpm, 5-10 at idle would be ideal. I run an MSD timing computer with no vacuum or mechnical advance only the computer to control timing I'm set for 14 at idle and 32 at 6000rpm any less and I get a hestitation in the lowend. Make sure the mechanical and vacuum advance units are functioning properly without sticking and that most of the timing is in by 3000rpm.
