Applying Terostat to reinstall fenders

I am posting on the 911 side, as I think there are more of you that have completed restorations than on the 930 side. I have a 86 930 that I am reinstalling both front fenders. I'm having an issue with the Terostat, as when unrolling and applying it stretches to various thickness making it very difficult to get a consistent thickness. I may be over thinking this, and it just may not be an issue, but before I use the second roll (I've already installed one time and removed, as I was not happy with the way it applied) I want to get some input from anyone that's applied this stuff. Also, is there another product like 3M 5200 sealer that would perform better, as this is 50yr old technology....

Just let it squish.....tightening the screws down evenly will have it squish out to fill all the voids and imperfections, which is what it is intended for.
