Flag vs aero mirror fitment

I want to replace the flag mirrors on my '87 Carrera with aero mirrors. Can someone tell me if the 965 bases fit into the same holes as my Carrera mirrors? Thanks.

I had 964 aero mirrors that fit onto my 86 Carrera just fine. The only reason I didn't keep them is that I couldn't figure out a way to connect the electric mirror controls to it as they aren't compatible. There was someone on the forum years ago that sold an adapter kit. I tried emailing him and never got a response.

So, fit will work--electronics will not. If you get a manual mirror and don't mind having a dead button on your door, you can just adjust it manually.

I took the motors out of my flag mirrors and teanfrered them to the aero mirrors. Was tedious work and required a special tool to release each wire from the plug so they could slide through the base of the mirror, but it wasn't hard. I now have power aero mirrors on my '89.

The '89 flag mirrors have a smaller round motor/mount. Earlier flag mirrors had a larger rectangle motor/mount.

I'm not sure what the '87 has, but if it's the round one this will work fine.

I've got power 993 mirrors on my '86. PO installed them. I'm happy to post any info you may need.
