83 sc faulty voltage regulator
 

I recently installed a digital volt meter in the lighter socket and after a 50 mi drive it was indicating as high as 18.6 volts.
I've a new vr on order but until it arrives I was planning a 500 mi trip and I'm wondering what trouble I might have driving the car with such high voltage.

Boiling your battery dry or having it explode from the hydrogen gassing are my first thoughts!!!
