Removing black and red heater control knobs
My original black and red slider control knobs on my heater unit have to be replaced after 44 years! The car is a 1973.5T. I have not applied a vise grip or pliers and tried yanking them off for fear that I could damage or destroy the internal control rod mechanisms or the face plate.
Any ideas on how to remove them without damaging anything! Appreciate any feedback on experience with this needed R&R. Thanks Bob |

^^^^^ The knobs are available from our host, but not sure how to remove the existing ones. Maybe some else will chime in. Good luck, Gerry |
Thanks Gerry.
I have the replacement knobs. Unfortunately no one has chimed in yet indicating that removing them has not been a popular subject! I tried pulling by hand but no going, which brings up the question......are they pressed or glued on the slides? Anyone?????? |
The ones I got (for an 87) were 911-613-139-00-01C and they just pulled off, not sure if they are at all similar to yours. I think they're just press fit w/o adhesive.
Maybe give it at least a day for the "chiming in" for the concerns you mentioned. You may get more eyes on this in the evening. |
Press fit, pull harder while rocking. Unless someone glued them!

They're in there pretty tight. I think when I did it I used pliers and pulled straight up. It was for an 80 SC.

Thanks....these knobs are on so tight I thought that they might have been heat pressed or glued so I might have to use my Dremmel saw blade to split in order to remove. I cannot see any other way without impacting the face plate.
