![]() ![]() OK, This is my first 'unknown'! I have an intermittent loud ticking sound that is directly related to engine revolutions (i.e., when I press on the gas). It has NOTHING to do with speed! This sound occurs once a week and it appears that it happens when I go uphill. It happens on the same freeway at the same location. Any thoughts? Help! |

Pinging?? Is it a metalic noise? Try chevron premium and see if it goes away.

is it engine related, or something in the trans or suspension? CV joints do that. mostly under load. they come and go until they get real bad.

bad valve knocking under heavy load? just a thought, hope its nothing to serious.

Update:
I checked suspension, cleaned all electrical connections (plus the ground) with no success. Checked the coil resistance = fine! Checked the timing = almost fine! Checked RPM = almost fine. Checked ignition wires resistance = fine. So using my hands, I decided to use myself as the conductor to determine if I have spark plug ignition. I wanted to feel how thousands of volts feels like! And guess what..... [this paragraph was a joke!] Sorry for the dry humor! Unplugged left bottom wire and inserted an "extra" old plug, grounded plug with jumpber cable, and started the car = spark existed. Did same spark test to the left middle wire = spark existed. Same with left top. Same with right top. Same with right middle. Same with right bottom. After 2 hours, I was all confused! This time, I unplugged the 'actual' spark plug and redid the test. Left bottom = ok. Left middle = Ok! Left top = Ok! Right top = OK! Right middle = ok! Right bottom = BAM!!!! No stinking spark!!!!! Now I am so happy to have solved my problem. RPM and Timing is very consistent now. I was kinda laughing because the last spark plug that I checked was the problem. Why cant I be the 'lucky joe' that when I check 6 things, I would be luckly enough to pull the first problem......not the last! And BTW, with this experience, it would be my first and last time I would be buying SplitFire plugs. Physically, the bad plug looks good but obviously someting inside is broken. SplitFire now has 1 less customer. BOSCH, YOUR CUSTOMER IS BACK! [This message has been edited by cab83_750 (edited 10-28-2001).] |
