Transporting Bare Chassis (San Diego)

Moving house soon (only a mile or so) and I currently have a completely stripped 911 coupe tub (on a wooden dolly) which I need to move. I don't have a trailer or the inclination to rent one. Who could I pay to help me make the short move? Is this something someone on Uship.com would bid on? Craigslist?

Thanks!

Towning company with flatbed will probably be the easiest and cheapest.

Thanks. Looks like we may now be using a moving company for our household stuff, who uses a 26-foot truck. They reckon we can roll the chassis in there on a ramp and strap it down...

I envisioned you rolling the tub down the street making "vroom, vroom" noises and then at some point saying "Good evening Officer...".

I saw a video once of a guy moving an entire log cabin several miles down a dirt road by himself.

That exact thing happened to me and a buddy going home early one morning from the neighbourhood pub. Except it was with a motorcycle. The cops were understanding and reminded us to stay off the street if any cars were coming our way. It probably helped that we weren't staggering drunk, and ever so polite.

To the OP, I'd think hard about having (risking) the movers transport your shell. A tow operator with a deck truck does that sort of thing all the time and with a rig that's designed for that purpose. And it'll cost less than a hundred bucks. Or free with an AMA card.

Works for this guy

Sorry, couldn't resist.
I would rent a flatbed. Tickets, especially in Cali, are not cheap.

I'll be in SD around the 8th with an empty trailer....contact me. What part of town?

Plan on pushing it up the ramp? My guess is that might be harder than you'd think. I'm picturing a steep ramp and little leverage. Maybe a bunch of guys, some pulling, some pushing?

I transported mine for blasting service & to paint shop on dolly, on roll-back type towing truck.....truck has winch to pull the car up onto the tilted flatbed. Strap it down good, it'll be fine.
I used the same driver/truck for all the hauls....big tip for him after the last trip ;o)

Thanks for the advice - I am going to see if a towing company can help.

Went with a flatbed tow truck. A & D Towing - very pleased with the service. Thanks!
