Is my 1978SC a Euro Spec Model? *PICS* Mexico Blue
Searched & can't figure it out-
I just bought a 78SC with mexico blue wrap (Bought to reselll eventually ) seller said its Euro Spec..however i can't tell from bumpers because the car has the IROC style bumpers - The speedometer does look European as its in incriments of 30MPH- I tried to use the vin to check and couldn't figure out- the car has the old style vin since its a 78. Vin is 911-831-0899 If anyone can help out would be great, thanks. Here are a few pics of it- Should i take it back to Stock or keep it as it is? It has a Mexico Blue Wrap on it now- original color is silver but was resprayed a good respray in speed yellow - so its speed yellow under that wrap- i do have 911SC original bumpers off another car, but these IROC style kind of fit the "style" of the car with the wrap and all so i thinking about keeping like this (but will add mesh grill to the mouth of the iroc bumper) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Tarek307; 11-13-2017 at 01:02 PM.. |

According to the little red book that is indeed the VIN of a Euro targa.
A quick glance check is the presence of the side marker lights between the wheel well and the door jamb in the front quarter panel. They can be deleted but if they are there, that's usually a good sign. Someone has replaced the original door cards with RS style. What's the engine serial number?

You will need your vin.
This link will give you an idea - https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/vin-decoder/ You can also call Porsche directly. I did, and they gave me the specifics of my car. Also, they were very friendly/nice. |

The speedo in your car looks to be a normal US unit, probably switched out when it was imported.

A RoW ‘78 SC will have a 930/03 engine. It will be stamped on the case near the oil pressure sending unit.

You’re right. What I was trying to get at but didn’t state very well was there are usually little tells for consistency like the amber tail lights instead of red. Of course there are differences depending on the model year but judging by the fact that so much has already been changed on this car you can’t rely on that in this case. That’s why I was asking about the engine serial number.

That is the right motor...a 930-03 row
180 hp @ 5500 rpm 175 ft lbs T @ 4200 rpm 8.5-1 compression ratio You seem to be missing your distributor vacuum advance hose that attaches to the 'can' off of your dizzy....that will reduce performance.
