Rear bumper guard fitment issues (US to Euro spec)
Hello All,
My car is currently in the body shop getting a new ducktail and bumper work done. We are in the 11th hour and re-assembly and have hit a screeching hault. A little bit of back information: The car is an '88 Carrera originally US spec. I purchased 2 Euro Bumper guards (bumperettes, but I think thats a stupid word, lol) from Sierra Madre, part no. 911.505.341.00/ 911.505.342.00. Currently the 4 center most holes have been filled and the bumper is painted. Fortunately, my body guy had the foresight to hit the 'Pause' button before drilling new holes to accommodate the euro versions. My Problem: After speaking with Sierra Madre, they mentioned that the parts I bought were for years 74-83(and to their credit had it in the description) and that the 84-89 was a different product. But I cannot seem to find a Euro version of a post 84 bumper guard. Does anyone, who has done this to their 84-89 know where I might find this (OEM, used or repop) or at least have a part number I can reference? Many thanks!!!!! Alex Also posting in WTB classified

my recollection is that the part numbers were changed to reflect a change to the rear valence under the bumper -- sits a HAIR further out, but that the valance can be "shaped" (bent) to work with the ones you have -- you should also be able to mount the euro versions without drilling new holes (they use the 2 outside holes) and see how the valance lines up

I don't understand.
Any rubber bumper pad, US or Euro, should bolt on to any impact bumper. Yes the tails of the euro guards are longer, but they will still bolt in with no modifications. That said, - there will be four open holes when all is said and done. FWIW, you literally have to get down on your hands and knees to see the overlap on the euro pads and the valance - so, to me, not a big deal. I know from whence I speak, I've done this mod on my 76 912, my 77 930, my son's 82 SC, and my 85 Carrera. Bill K

You need the 930 part number euro bumper pads. This is due to a different valance used on the rear bumper for Carreras. The 911 part number pads fit the SC valance.
The post JRSIII posted is one I did.. it describes everything. Pictures are dead because PhotoBucket sucks but you don’t even need the pictures. Just go off the part numbers.
