You'll only THINK your non-catted 911 exhaust "stinks" until you get stuck:
Behind a rich running Jensen Healey On a Federal Parkway of speed limit 50 In an eternal no passing zone On an 85F day with NO air conditioning!

It is against Federal law to remove a catalytic converter from a vehicle. Not necessarily your issue since you did not remove it.
However, you may run into a situation where you take the vehicle to a shop, specifically a muffler shop, and they believe they are required by law to put a cat back on. You should know this in advance and plan accordingly.

My ‘84 was smelly with the premuffler, not with the cat. It was not a pleasant, enthusiast smell. I blamed it on the crappy ethanol gas we get here in Oregon.
