901 transmission in a 1973 911
If I put a 901 tranny into my '73, do I have to make any changes to the shifter set up -- or can I continue using the shifter that's in there now?
Thanks! |

You'll need a 901 shift housing to go with the 901 transaxle.

Thanks -- do I need the 901 shifter also? Or will the present one work?

By shift housing, I meant everything inside the shift housing as well (shift lever, springs, etc.).
Sherwood BTW, would you be open to trade your 915 shifter for a 901? I've got one from my '69. Good condition. In service until '82. In storage since then. Last edited by 911pcars; 02-05-2003 at 07:17 PM.. |

Why?
Why would you want a 901 gearbox with that fragile mainshaft?
Just curious. Roger Grago R Gruppe #27 73 RS-T 70 2.4 MFI VW Bus |

What about the other way around? If I put a 915 in my '69, will I have to use shift components from a car that had a 915 in it??
ThanX

Yes. In addition, depending on the MY 915, there may be issues with matching CV joints and axles, speedo hookup and bumping out the tunnel a bit, but nothing that's insurmountable. BTW, there's plenty of threads on this subject in the PP database. Sherwood |

I like the light wt. and the road racing shift pattern of the 901.

I've actually been considering the exact same thing.
