Auto recalls and tech service bulletins
Have any of you been anal enough to go thru all the recalls and service bulletins for your model, find out the nature of the recall and make the necessary changes/checks?
I was just going thru the www.alldata.com list for my 87 Carrera and now that I'm more familiar with my car I can detect some of the things indicated but don't have the full recall info. Has anyone paid the nominal fee (IMO) of US$25 for the full recall data on your model? Is it worth it? Presently I feel like someone has just whispered behind my back and I really want to know what they're saying and I can't get it out of my head....I wonder....Its gonna drive me crazy not knowing what all the TSB Titles are actually referring too.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/silly.gif |
see if the dealer can still get the technical bulletin book for your year. some years are still available.

You can go to
http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/problems/tsb/ and click on the Vehicle link (under the blue SELECT THE TYPE OF SEARCH heading). Then of course enter 1987, Porsche, 911, and then leave the Type of Component (optional) field blank/don't pick a category. Also check the checkbox to get a summary of each TSB displayed. If you notice, the Date of Bulletin for each bulletin seems to include stuff before and beyond 1987. But it does give you more than nothing! ;) |
I scanned the ones from the Parts and technical reference manual, and stuck them on my rennlist page.
Tech bulletin 1: Alternator with integrated regulator Tech bulletin 2: Hydraulic tensioners Tech bulletin 3: G50 release bearing Tech bulletin 4: G50 mod Clutch release lever bearings Tech bulletin 5: 85-89 axle shafts and CV joints Tech bulletin 6: Modifications on Door and hinge pillars Tech bulletin 7: Cross-arm window lifters. I paid for two of my cars, the info. there is worth the $25 for the year (additional cars are only $10-$15). The TSBs are scanned and available in high res. so all the diagrams and photos are available as well.
Considering my cars are 'older' and I don't expect to see many additional TSBs I can download them all and consider it a 'one-time' fee. A reasonable deal at least... |
