Help with part needed ('81 SC)
Hi there
I'm in the process of sprucing up the upholstering around the rear seats when I hit a snag with this part... it's all, warped and ugly and needs to go, problem is that it's nowhere to be found on our hosts website  The part in question is made of a thin plastic, it hugs the rear windscreen around the bottom, basically on top of the rear parcel shelf... pictures below show the part without vinyl cover... The car is a 1981 SC Targa ex Japan that had the interior done up at some point in its life (ie part potentially not original). Any idea anybody?? Thanks Karlhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506507879.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506507913.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506507944.jpg |
I don't think that is original. On my car the rear parcel shelf goes right up to the rear window. What does your parcel shelf look like?
Under the parcel shelf there should also be a rubber-coated sound pad. Mark |
Hi Mark
Yes, there is sound padding. In the picture that was removed. The parcel shelf cover is made of particle board and is covered with vinyl. It doesn't go all the way to the seal of the windscreen (although I have seen this on other cars). The part I am after fits the application perfectly. Albeit maybe not original, certainly looks purpose built. Maybe from a younger model!? Thanks Karl |

I do not have that on my ROW '81 Targa either.

The parcel shelf should snug right up to the glass...
|
Can't tell from pic but that looks like part of your targa bar cover.
|
Don't have that in my 82 targa either...
|
My US model '78 Targa is just like that (warpage and all). The only time I've seen flush ones is when they had the factory rear speakers.
I'll try to get a picture of mine today. |
Thought I read on a forum that the rear seating/shelf area was different for Japan market. Can you take that to a metal works shop and have them straighten it out for you? - doesn't look impossible to do.
Edit : Oops, didn't make note that you said it was made of plastic, apologies |
Here are some pictures of my rear deck / parcel shelf area.
Mine is also severely warped. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506535553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506535553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506535553.jpg |
Thanks Theenico, looks like we are having the same part...
It's made out of plastic, can't see how a metal shop would get it straight... It's most definitely not the targa bar cover... I've done some googling, here's a couple of pictures that shows it better (the part I'm after is on top, hugging the parcel shelf cover on one side and the rear windscreen seal on the other side)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506542553.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506542572.jpg |

Try looking for one from an earlier car. It was used on all of them without rear speakers and coupes may be the same
|
You have the same rear deck as my '80 Targa, no speakers, but with luggage strap hooks. If out host doesn't have anything, you might try Lakewell. They make reproductions of various interior parts and might be able to help. Failing that, perhaps a used parts dealer

Thanks team!
Found it on lakewell, just incredibly expensive because they only sell the complete parcel shelf and in the wrong colour, might have to revert to DIY after all... FYI it's for years 67-71 Karl |
