Smoothed out impact bumpers

I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but I just managed to find a really nice example of what I want and wanted to ask with the picture.

The IROC front bar is too full on with the oil cooler spot etc for a nearly stock car. And the standard one is a bit ugly (and my car is missing the factory chin spoiler anyway which would presumably cost a bit to replace)

So I'm wanting to know if the front bumper in this car is an off-the-shelf item? Or someone has made a hybrid of a few different things to create this. Anyone know the owner of the car or the parts used? Would probably pair this up with an SC IROC rear bumper.

Any leads would be appreciated

Cheers

Don't have any info on that car but I am also interested in the bumpers on the car. Very clean and simple and doesn't deviate too far away from that great classic look...

Looks very much like an IROC bumper that has had the oil cooler "box" cut out and a flat panel glassed in. The bumper part, indicators and brake ducts are all IROC/3.0RS pattern. Looks like a custom one-off to me.

That is a DP motorsports vehicle. You can find the items you want on their online catalog. Be advised it is a German company and shipping may be prohibitive.

Just found this after a bit of searching through DP Motorsports
Porsche 911 G-Modell Karosserieteile

But that isn't the same bumper. I found this project gallery which is of the above car.
Gewichtsreduzierung

But this stuff is looking a bit out of my price range!

So the bumpers are on this list somewhere:
http://www.federleichte-elfer.de/fileadmin/images/911_SC/Preisliste%20911%20SC%20Projekt.pdf

This is interesting.. so this is a "middie" car made to have a longhood feel without going full out with hood and fenders.. could be an economical option for guys like me on a budget. Someone buy them, I'll come build the molds and sell em To make them streetable they would have to be thick fiberglass though..

I really like some of the touches on this car.. like updated fuses that have really nice factory looking labels below them.. also the simplicity of the dead pedal is right up my alley..

After looking at a few more pictures, it looks a little too aftermarket for my taste though (the bumpers).. sigh.. I need to start collecting longhood parts..

Edit: I like how they arent afraid to admit that "bondo" is required for a good body fit.. also, who ever designed this car has great taste as far as departures from the real thing are concerned..

thanks for sharing this photo... hope you find what you want!

I think I remember this car from an article in Excellence -- maybe a story about the owner wanting to make his daily driver as light as possible. I'll look for the issue tonight if you're still interested.

I call that the "shoe-box" and I agree it is not the most elegant solution I've ever seen.

Nice car and bumpers on that white car, I'll be watching this thread.

That appears to be the whole idea based on the website...

I do think that front bumper/valance is a one off too.. with a cooler delete.

In the same vein, Here is what I did with the OEM bumpers. Had an aluminum strip welded in place and refinished myself.

More pictures please.. what about the rear?

Did you consider pushing the front bumper back tight.. is that possible or a nightmare.. my thought is to be rid of that black plastic piece on top??

And are you going to tell us how you filled it in? Tease.

So how are you guys "filling in" the front bumper?

Edit: sorry.. I see welded in aluminum... hmm nice.. cleans things up.. I bet it would be a major deal to tuck the front one in further or it would have been done.

Mine are tucked a cm...you can only tuck so much with the accordians...

The bumpers were first milled to about half thickness then an aluminum plate was tig welded in. I also have the euro crush tubes.

What I was after was safety on the street (no fiberglass with a nerf bar) while retaining the orignal look.

They are pretty lightweight for metal bumpers.

Nice look guys! I would love to see it w/o front and rear spoilers. A true clean IB 911.

Someone did do it. I believe his Pelican handle is Kiwiokie. There's a thread somewhere here in which he goes into what he did. Looks like the rear portions have been cut off as the bellows seem to be intact.

Yes I think that blue car has had the bumpers kinda 'cut and shut' rather than just tucking them in closer. Still, doesn't have a bad effect. Anyone got a photo of the rear end of the blue car?

Thanks for sharing the pics of the shaved bumpers on the other cars. That work looks DAMN good as well, and as a fabricator - welding a strip of alloy into a bumper and giving it a skim of bog doesn't scare me too much.
