500 Miles on Rebuild

I'm about to change the oil, adjust valves, and tighten head nuts per Wayne's book after the first 500 miles. This will happen again in another 500 miles and then the engine should be fully broken in and ready for regular service intervals.

My question is do I need to get a new valve cover gasket kit each time I do this? Or can I reuse the one on there with 500 miles on it?

Wayne's book recommends doing this after 500 miles and then again at 1000 miles on a rebuilt engine.

Ok i have never read that book;-)i just finished recently engine but i put on 1000 miles non stop.
Been doing it like this for 30 years.
I guess everybody has it`s own ricks;-)I cannot tell you it is wrong, just wondering...for me in 500 miles is not long enough for everything to settle, that is all.
