Found two unidentified wires - help?

In the middle of changing out dual CDIs (twin plug) on a 1986 930 and after I had removed them noticed two wires that didn't seem to be connected to anything - one wire and one connector with three wires.

I'm uncertain if they need to be connected as the car was running fine prior prior to pulling the CDIs and discovering their disconnected state.

On the one that is a plug w/ the three wires, I can't seem to find its compliment to plug it into (see the photos to see the plug w/ three wires.

As for the single solid purple wire (not the black w/ purple tracer wire), it is as you see then runs back toward the cabin and disappears in the jungle of engine stuff (again, see photos).

Thanks for any help. It's appreciated.

purple and twisted is obviously aftermarket... probably someone added an aftermarket engine component.. maybe MSD ignition?
Or maybe they plug up to some funky 3rd brake light?

Does it connect back to the fuse panel in the trunk?
I had strange wires running around my car and just pulled them out... guessing they were for some sound system put in the car.

the black plug with 3 wires is used to test the frequency valves dwell %.

Trakrat and Lorne - thanks for the help. Appreciate it.

Upon further investigation I was able to measure about 5.4-5.8v on that random purple wire when the ignition is in the on position. I was also able to find a relay that had a scored but unpopulated blade. I reconnected the purple wire to the relay and it would appear as if it is where it belongs given the way the wire has been routed, its bends and length.

So, now have put the CDIs back in and went to fire it up. It roars to life for about a second or two then stops running... Yes, a different issue. Ugh.

Thanks again for the help.
