A small world. I was working on my 83 SC today and noted it only had one rear deck lid shock on the left hand side. The other side had no bracket.

That's the norm for a SC. Mine came out of the factory as a SC Sport and they had the bracket on both sides to hoist up the big lump of rubber whale tail.

nothing easier than to make a DIY bracket or find that hinge as used part

I put a new one on the deck lid, after buying two, not even noticing there was only one, until I went to put the second one on and then I'm like, what an idiot.

I can say the new one made a huge difference, the lid goes up by itself smoothly and will not be coming down by itself.

I had the front ones on mind the whole time, so I bought two of those too...only installed one because my fat hands won't fit to get the inside clip of the driver's side. I probably should go give that another try; it's been months since the first attempt.

I bought a set of long handle needle nose pliers that worked well for getting the clip and pin out.

1988 3.2 with whale tail. My lid is nicely counterbalanced. I don't think that the gas strut was ever replaced. I removed the a/c so there is no condenser or hoses so maybe that's why it is smooth.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1506905387.JPG

Brilliant! I had not thought of it. I love any excuse to get a new tool.

Saw there was a mount for a strut on each side so I put in two, figuring the previous owner was too cheap to put in both. Wrong. When I had two, the deck lid kept popping open every time I hit a bump, no matter how the latch was adjusted. Took out the extra and the problem I created was solved.
