MFI Fuel Pump Zims vs. Bosch

Does anyone have practical experience with running/using the Zims vs. the Bosch fuel pump for MFI?? I have a 2.2E and a stock Bosch fuel pump (mounted up front) that will need a rebuild before it all goes back in. I'm interested in your thoughts on either rebuilding my existing fuel pump or go with a Zims or comparable fuel pump.

Glenn

From the Zim's site: Zims has come up with a solution to replace the very hard to find Bosch 0 580 970 001 (Porsche 901.608.105.00) MFI fuel pump.

Ditto...

I'd like to know the answer to your question, too. I'm guessing somebody out there has given Zim's alternative pump a try on their MFI 911. Any feedback?

Regards,

Bill

Bump for an update. Just saw this while researching Zim's pumps. Curious of other feedback also.

I am thinking about trying the Zim's pump out as well. I'll keep everyone posted.

fuel pump

Did the Zim's pump work out? Kinda curious my pump is located in the rear of the car. Did you have to relocate it?

We have about 3 hours of run time on the Zims pump and so far and all is well. Plenty of pressure. The pump runs full time even after pressure is built.

The pump is located on the front cross member and is wired directly to the fuse panel off of the starter switch.

Working fine for me, I recommend mounting it up front as its not really suitable for mounting in the original rear shoe location. I made it fit there but its fugly, I plan to move it forward as in the pictures above, strapped to the front cross member. Another possibility is to mount it at the rear in line with the fuel pipe exiting the centre tunnel out of sight above the gearbox cross member.

It is less noisy than the original Bosch, but it can still be heard. No markings on it that I can recall to identify it, but it looks like a common after market in line fuel pump.

I now have 2 original Bosch pumps to recondition one day, meanwhile this pump is keeping me on the road at a reasonable price.

I am running the zims pump on my 69 911E (MFI)
It seems to be working fine. I would like to install an original but
after using the zims in a pinch I will hold off until the zoms stops working.

Old thread, but how's the Sims pump running? My Bosch just erupted... thinking about the Sims or searching for an alternate option until I can get the original rebuilt...

thanks!

I've had a Zims pump for about 3 years now. No issues at all.

My correct MFI pump that was 'new' kept breaking and would not stay working regardless of being fixed.

At around 1/3 or less price than an original pump its hard to go wrong with the Zims unit.

It does not have a return line so that requires some imagination in the plumbing department.

Thanks Mathew! I read the Zims installation instructions and it didn't sound too bad... what did you do with the return line?

Just ran it back from the engine bay to the tank.

Two years on and the Zim's pump is still working fine.

You still need the return line for the MFI filter assembly return feed. I deleted the T connection where the Bosch pump once connected. One less thing to leak.
