Can't find elastic bolt for my 901. Can I use a different part?
 

I have a 1969 911T 5sp. with an elastic bolt with part no. 90133227511

I can't find new ones anywhere!

However, there is a different part, 90133227501, that is still available. The difference is that the '11 has a little nipple at the end and the '01 does not. Can I use the 01 in its place?

The bolt with the nipple is used with the infamous simplified differential. They are prone to wear and cause catastrophic failure. You may save your trans by getting rid of the simplified diff parts and changing back to original style which uses the lower bolt without nipple. Use the search feature here. There are lots of threads on this subject.

NO. The nipple secures the cross-shaft in the spider gear assembly. Without it or if the nipples wears enough to break off, the shaft slides out and disaster occurs, to put it mildly.

Google or bing the part number and several places come up that supposedly stock it.

I've followed up with a couple of places that claim to stock it and they either can't actually get the part (but they keep in on their website) or it's a used part. My mechanic claims that this bolt is stretched during use, so I should find a new one, and also that the one currently in place can't be removed and reinserted.

Another important point: He hasn't removed the bolt yet, so there's a slim chance that it's the 01 part and not the 11 in the first place. Would there be a way to tell what it is without removing it (i.e. the design of the flange)?

They are reusable, so feel free to inspect it, but only do one at a time or the shaft can slide and you won't be able to get it back in properly.
