How can I find out the build month???

I need to order a VIN sticker for my door jam... need to give them the month my car was built for them to make me a sticker.
Is there a way to decode this information from my VIN?

Nope, need a COA.

But some COAs don't list the Production Completion Date....

You do not have the books which came with the car?

If your car is a 87 Carrera U.S. Coupe, there was 2916 produce between Aug 86 to July 87.

You could ask if someone is close to your last 4 of your VIN.

If you are "not conformable" to give your VIN, change the last digit :D:):D

You mean the owner's manual? I believe I have it... I don't recall seeing a manufacturer date in it though...

I would order the COA and see if it has one.

My guess is it will.

I had the same question for the same reason with my 1975 S.

I was able to determine my build date by patiently doing some research. Obviously I know the VIN number of my car so I went on eBay and Pelican and looked for cars for sale that were the same model year AND TYPE of my car (Example 1975 Targa.)

I created a database with verified build dates. When someone was selling a car I looked for a photo of the drivers door jamb where the original production sticker and made note of VIN and build date. Below are a couple of examples of two such VIN stickers I found while searching vehicles for sale.

After a month and a half I was able to narrow down the month/year of production based on my database. Example: You can assume a vehicles with the VINs between 911521-0089 and 911521-0101 were manufactured in July 1974 Since their VINs fall between two known/verified vehicles that were built in July 1974.

My 1975 Porsche 911S Targa Build Database

9115210021 Build date of 06/74
9115210089 Build date of 07/74

9115211166 Build date of 04/75
9115211187 Build date of 05/75

9115211406 Build date of 06/75
9115211499 Build date of 06/75

This database took me about 6 weeks to compile. If you are patient, you could do it the same way.
