I'm not going to lie: Wevo Unboxing

I'm not going to lie. It's pretty disappointing unboxing a Wevo shifter to find a shifter rod and a faceplate for what I *now* know now to be stock shifter base. It looks so nice and black in the picture. LOL

Is there a thread yet for falling out of the Rookie 911 Owner tree and hitting every branch on the way down?

What are you complaining about? The shift rod and its spring loaded assembly is the precision design you we look for, I hope! You complain because it looks simple? The goal of superior engineering is to make it as simple and elegant as possible.

And if you spend a couple of hours with fine emery cloth and metal polish you get get the shifter housing to a nice smooth shine..... looks great!

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

The wevo has been the best purchase thus far on upgrades for my 911. No more worries about a high RPM miss shift that will take out my gear box. The shifting is strait forward now and not like rowing a boat.

Most consider the shifter a significant improvement. Remember that you will need to make some linkage adjustments and fine tuning. All the info you need is in Pelican.

Good luck!

Rennshift equals more bling out of the box.

joe payne 10-07-2017 07:37 AM

Should have bought a Rennshift. It's a complete and adjustable shifter.

Sand the housing and powder coat :)

I'm "complaining" because visually it looks like I just spent $700 for a shift lever rather than a complete and tidy solution like the Rennshift. I'm sure I will like it once installed but it sitting in the box it does not strike me as a value. I will comment that Tracy was very pleasant.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm sure it will be. I just took the car driving for the first time. Shifting the 915 is certainly a new experience. The car handled great, I know for sure now that I'm going to want a SW chip.

That's good to hear, it is a bit underwhelming opening a box with a metal rod a plate with springs and some plastic cylinders...but it's engineering is superb. I believe you can get different weighted centering springs too

Does the shifting experience make up for your initial disappointment?

Yep, that's a G50 shifter.

When I did mine, I got the classic lever which looks just like the one that was on the car from the factory. With that and the boot over the mechanism at the base it looks completely stock except for the little bump out on the rear of the boot from the mechanism. Until you shift with it. It really is one of the most noticeable upgrades I've made to the car. The G50 shifted well before, but that shifter made it way better. It was described to me as being "like a rifle bolt" and I can't disagree.

I have another type of gated shift kit. If you ''need'' a gated shifter, you should probably stick with what you have.

Harpo 10-08-2017 05:29 AM

Yes, that is the G50 shifter. I was also underwhelmed when I opened the box but now that I'm done with my modifications I'm thrilled with the appearance. I have not yet installed it.
