Unhook the other end and slide the u on the pin to where it opens up for release.

Can't pull the entire piece off the trans? nervous about leaving a 2 inch cylinder object sticking out of trans.

You can also pull it down half way and insert a screwdriver and twist it will come off.

Just spread the opening. There is a keeper pin on the top of the motor that locks the rod or the console. The pin pivots around the rod head then locks the ball.
You can pull the pun off the side of the trans with an 8 mm open end across the flats. Sometimes you need to remove the cotter key to get a hold of it. Bruce Last edited by Flat6pac; 10-08-2017 at 11:21 AM.. |

As Bob Kontak said. You just pull the linkage off the bellcrank and leave the bellcrank alone.
![]() It was mentioned before but to clarify: You pull the linkage until the widening (circled in red) slips off the bellcrank's pin. If you are going to toss the transmission around you'd want to take the pivot pin off the transmission but who is going to mishandle a transmission like that?

pry the little ball socket at the other end through the tin where it connects to the throttle linkage bell crank and it will flop around. I'm starting to think you are pulling leg with some of these questions TR.... or, you're in waaay over your head...

ok.. I pulled off the socket at the engine.
I wanted to take the entire thing out of the transmission, but I guess it's fine leaving it in.

that linkage is easily identified later when reassembling, but what is your system of marking & cataloging parts as they are removed? they look different clean 6-24 months from now. I hope you are painter's taping & labeling parts with corresponding pictures. there has been more than one over zealous disassembler here that has ended up with a running car eventually in boxes.

There are nylon bushings inside the swivel on the trans.
They are consumable. Bruce |

Seriously though... I'm taking pictures of how something is assembled, arranged before taking it apart if it looks confusing or its not pictured correctly in any of my books. For all the nuts and bolts, I am separating everything into sandwich bags and writing on them what they go to. Once I get to the point of disassembling my engine, I'll be more methodical of taking a picture at each part removal. The problem I've already noticed however, is that the PO had worked on this engine as well (what exactly, I do not know)... and some bolts seem to missing, extra washers were found just sitting in crevices, and other parts.

after removing the long linkage, remove bent spline and unwind the hole stem from trans body (SW8 key). the stem has 2 bushings that may need replacemnet...
