1976 911s targa 2.7 not starting
So this car has not been driven for few years.
I have replaced of all the fluids, spark plugs and fuel filter. I found I wasn't getting fuel and today I got the fuel relay and I can hear the fuel pump running and can smell gas but no sign of startup, the engine turn fine without any funny noises. I hear buzzing from the back of the engine and all around looks normal. I've cleaned the distributor and the relay opens enough. Not sure where to go from here. I appreciate your suggestions. Pic from the back. All the wiring is good.

Inside the air box, under the air cleaner, there is like a horseshoe. With the key in the on position lift the horseshoe and feel the injectors charge the cylinders.
Do this for a couple seconds and then see if it will hit. If it doesn't hit, check for the spark. That's 2 of 3 items needed to run, the third being compression. Bruce |

You can easily check for spark with a timing light. Does it still have points?
Check that the piston in the fuel distributor is moving up and down freely with the air flow plate. It can get gummed up and keep the fuel from flowing. Bruce's check may free this up.

Ok, will check that.
It has points and I do get fuel coming out of the injectors. When I take the plug out I get no spark during turningbof the engine. Last edited by kavadarci; 10-06-2017 at 05:05 PM.. |

So I read the manual again and it turn out the distributor was not pointing to cylinder 1.
Car started and it's burning the years of oil residue but can't put it into gear it grinds the gear I did change the fluid and will check again but is there clutch adjustment somewhere?

There are actually two adjustment points on the clutch. One is at the clutch arm under the car that sets the cable length. The other is the stop at the pedal board that’s present to stop you from exerting too much travel on the lever when you depress the clutch. You’re actually pulling the pressure plate away from the clutch disc when you depress the pedal.
If the car has been sitting for a while, it’s possible that the clutch disc has gotten stuck onto the flywheel or pressure plate. Try starting the car in gear (watch where the car is in case it jerks forward or backwards) with the clutch depressed all the way. If it moves, either the cable needs adjustment or it has frozen. Good luck!
