Installing Momo hub

Installing a Momo hub on my 82 SC and seems like the steering wheel leans a little left or a little right. I keep pulling the hub and trying to adjust it but it seems like it goes into the same slots but not in the middle of them. Seems like with so many slots/teeth that it would be easy. Anyone experience this and is there a solution? Thanks

Do you mean that you are having a hard time getting the hub clocked to center in the splines?

Are you leaving the wheel attached to the hub? if not try it that way.

I had the same problem when I installed a wheel on my bmw. I ended up adjusting my tie rods to center the wheel. Very small adjustment was needed. Steve

Yes,, having a hard time getting the hub centered to the splines. I have the hub not fully inserted into the splines and the steering wheel attached to the hub so I am able to drive around to check the alignment of the steering wheel. I can pull everything out and reinsert. Just cannot get it set perfectly.

Then you have to reset your road wheel alignment if you want it perfect. I can live with a slight off center if it is minor.

As has been mentioned, you may need to have an alignment, or at the very least a minor adjustment of the tie rods to get the steering wheel perfectly straight.

Not sure if I need an alignment or adjustment of the tie rods as the stock steering wheel was centered perfectly before I pulled it. It might be the hub? Anyway, I'll probably get a Mom C231 to replace the L231 as I would like it shorter anyway. Trades anyone?

The splines on an aftermarket wheel are not going to be perfectly clocked to the orientation of the splines of your stock wheel. There will always be some minor variation between steering wheels due to manufacture and spline alignment. You need to fine tune the steering wheel alignment by adjusting the tie rods. An alignment shop will do it very inexpensively. If you get a full alignment, any good shop will make sure the steering wheel is clocked. I've never installed a new steering wheel that did not need some trial and error fine tuning via tie rod adjustment to make the wheel clock perfectly.

Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'll align it the best I can then take it to a shop.

Drive the car...clock the steering wheel where you want it...note the direction of the car (L or R)
Adjust the tie rods evenly (eg. say 1/2 turn each) so the wheels now track in the opposite direction you noted driving.
Do this until you have the proper steering alignment.....pita but it works.
The wheels must be on the ground and easily moved/steered....I use 4 vinyl floor tiles with oil in between...2 under each tire.
Or....go to your alignment guy

Correction....I use the tiles when I align......wheels can be in the air when adjusting both sides in the same increment...the only way to check tho is to drive it so it is labor intensive...up/down etc.
