Questions on ventilation issues...
 

Hi everyone, sorry for this long post, but hopefully some of you will make it through and have some suggestions for me.

So, I'm trying to diagnose and repair issues with my fresh air ventilation. First, the controls on the dash are a little wonky:

Note how the fresh air distribution slide moves. It doesn't want to stay at either end - it always pulls back to the middle. I tried adjusting it as described in the Bentley manual. What I noticed though is that the outer sheath moves with the inner cable. So, if I reinstall the bowden cable retaining spring clip a pretty good length of the outer sheath extends below the clip (see pic below). After that, I can't move the flaps anymore. Am I correct that the end of the outer sheath should be just below the spring clip, allowing the inner cable to slide? I can't seem to pull the outer sheath up any - any suggestions? Also, once I did that I noticed that the slider in the dash will now stay to the right side, but still wants to pull back from the left.

Also, my fresh blower is not working. The fresh air valve cable seems to be working properly, with the inner cable sliding within the outer sheath. I took the blower out and disassembled it (see pic below) and everything looks okay. No parts melted together, the fan spins smoothly, etc.

I tried starting the car and then sliding the fresh air intake valve. When I slide it to the right the little fan light on the right side of the slide turns on, which tells me it is registering that I am turning it on. I measured the voltage at the electrical harness connector at the blower, and it is definitely getting power. Here's a pic of the inside of the blower on the other side of the electrical harness. It looks pretty good as well. My understanding is that the other two pins introduce resistance which effectively tells the fan which speed is selected.

Any suggestions or other tests to run given the info I've provided? Is there any other info I can provide to help?

Okay, so an update for anyone who looks at this. My neighbor and I just connected the blower motor directly to the battery and it spun, so it's not the blower itself. My guess at this point is that it is corroded contacts in the ventilation control in the dash. Any suggestions on removing that?
